Laguna Colorada is a shallow salt lake in ‘Eduardo Avaroa Andean Fauna National Reserve’ in the southwest region of Bolivia and close to the border with Chile. It is located at 4300 m above sea level and covers over 60 sq. km. The fiery red shades are caused by planktons that thrive in the water rich of sodium, magnesium, borax and gypsum.
